We are a well-established GP practice in Sutton, committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care to our local community. We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our friendly team and play an important role in delivering excellent primary care.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, and our dedicated administrative team in a practice that values teamwork, professional development, and putting patients first

Main duties of the job

As a Practice Nurse, you will provide a wide range of nursing services to patients of all ages, helping to promote health, prevent illness, and support the management of long-term conditions.

What You will Be Doing

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care within a busy GP practice.
  • Carry out health assessments, routine examinations, and chronic disease reviews.
  • Administer immunisations, vaccinations, injections, and medications in line with current guidelines.
  • Provide cervical screening, wound care, dressings, and other treatment room services.
  • Support health promotion by educating patients on healthy lifestyles, medication, and self-management of long-term conditions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records using the practice's clinical system.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated patient care.
  • Help maintain clinical standards, infection control procedures, and stock management within the treatment rooms.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • A Registered Nurse (NMC) with current registration.
  • Experienced in general practice nursing or primary care.
  • Confident in delivering treatment room services and chronic disease management.
  • Friendly, approachable, and committed to providing outstanding patient care.
  • Organised, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable using electronic patient record systems.
  • Keen to continue developing their skills through ongoing learning and training.

Job description

Essential CriteriaQualifications

  • Registered Nurse (Level 1) with a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Up-to-date mandatory training appropriate to the role.

Experience

  • Experience working as a registered nurse, preferably within primary care, community, or outpatient settings.
  • Experience in delivering evidence-based nursing care.
  • Experience in health promotion and supporting patients to manage their own health.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate and confidential patient records.
  • Experience of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the principles of general practice nursing.
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities for children and vulnerable adults.
  • Understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement, and risk management.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection, and information governance requirements.
  • Understanding of the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and preventative healthcare.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills within scope of practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands effectively.
  • Competent in the use of electronic clinical record systems.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently while recognising own limitations and seeking support when appropriate.
  • Ability to contribute positively to a small practice team.

Desirable CriteriaQualifications

  • General Practice Nursing qualification or and experience.
  • Cervical Screening (Sample Taker) qualification.
  • Immunisation and vaccination training.
  • Mentor or assessor qualification.

Experience

  • Previous experience working within a GP practice.
  • Experience managing long-term conditions including diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.
  • Experience undertaking NHS Health Checks.
  • Experience in travel health services.
  • Experience of wound care, dressings, and leg ulcer management.
  • Experience using clinical systems such as EMIS Web or SystmOne.
  • Experience participating in clinical audit or quality improvement initiatives.

Clinical CompetenciesThe ability to undertake some or all of the following would be advantageous:

  • Cervical cytology.
  • Childhood and adult immunisations.
  • Chronic disease reviews.
  • Wound care and suture/staple removal.
  • Lifestyle advice, smoking cessation, and weight management support.
  • Contraceptive advice and sexual health services (where applicable).

Other Requirements

  • Commitment to maintaining professional registration and meeting NMC revalidation requirements.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training to meet the needs of the practice.
  • Flexibility to support extended access sessions or occasional additional clinics where required.
