Job summary

The Clinical Coding Officer is responsible for meeting essential trust requirements for statutory information and financial flows through abstracting and analysing complex clinical information from patient's records and translating this into coded format in line with National Standards. The job will involve working on all specialties. Other keyresponsibilities include; dealing with enquires from all parts of the hospital and contributing towards the development of trainee clinical coders; acting as mentor to and assisting with training. The post holder will work as part of a team of experienced trained and trainee staff.

Post holder must be able to demonstrable Clinical Coding experience gained within the UK NHS healthcare setting.

Have completed recognised UK Clinical Coding training and possess relevant coding qualifications/training.

Main duties of the job

Abstract and analyse clinical information from a variety of electronic source documents which include complex patient records, electronic discharge summary and letters across a broad range of clinical specialties. Translate tisinto a coded format in line with National Clinical Coding standards, using ICD10 and OPCS4 classifications. Enter coded data in to appropriate computer systems. All queries and discrepancies to be clarified with clinical staff as necessary.
