An exciting opportunity has become available for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Woodrowe House. Woodrowe House is a leading neurological complex care service located in the picturesque outskirts of Leicester, in Markfield.

We specialise in complex care and treatment for individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI) and other neurological conditions, including stroke and spinal injuries. Our mission is to provide a supportive and expert environment for long-term and short-term care needs.

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose

As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will manage a specialist caseload of individuals with complex neurological needs, assessing and supporting their Speech, Communication and Language Needs (SCLN) and Eating, Drinking and Swallowing (EDS) needs. Acting as the lead for Speech and Language Therapy within the service, you will deliver evidence-based assessment and intervention in line with the Cygnet SLT Pathway for Neurological Complex Care, supporting rehabilitation, risk management, safety, wellbeing and quality of life.

You will work with patients across our three care pathways at Woodrowe House:

  • Slow Stream Rehabilitation: Goal-focused, therapeutically-led placements for people who have stepped down from acute rehabilitation settings.
  • Long-term & Maintenance: Packages designed for individuals with progressive or highly dependent needs to prevent deterioration and improve quality of life.
  • Short-term Placements: Providing respite care allowing the caregiver to take a much-needed break from their duties, whilst knowing that their loved one is safe and well-supported.

You will be part of a company-wide SLT service and as such will have the opportunity to participate in large-scale projects. You will receive high-quality supervision and be supported with CPD.

The role will contribute to the delivery of person-centred care, provide specialist advice and consultation, support staff training and competency development, and lead the implementation of interventions and environmental approaches that optimise communication, swallowing function, participation, independence and quality of life for individuals with complex neurological and rehabilitation needs.

You will be part of a company-wide SLT service and as such will have the opportunity to participate in large-scale projects. You will receive high-quality supervision and be supported with CPD.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

  • A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy, registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) and membership of the RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists)
  • Competency to independently assess and manage EDS needs (essential)
  • Experience in the field of acquired brain injury, neuroprogressive conditions, spinal injuries, evidenced by high level of clinical SLT knowledge.
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning
  • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
  • Excellent communication / time management skills
