Job summary

East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust provides Integrated Contraception & Sexual Health (iCaSH) across Bedford, Cambridgeshire, Milton Keynes, Norfolk and Peterborough.

The service delivers care specifically to meet the needs of its diverse population. The Norfolk service is community based with three main clinics in Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Kings Lynn, providing contraception, sexual health and HIV care and treatment.

The successful candidate will join a team of friendly, highly skilled and experienced medical, nursing and allied health professionals, supported by clinic assistants and administrative staff, all delivering a high standard of care to patients at our Norwich Clinic. You will also work alongside the teams in Kings lynn and Great Yarmouth, you must be prepared to travel.

Working Pattern: Monday-Saturday. Includes late evenings. Hours will be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse or Midwife with a strong team-working ethic to join our team as a Contraception Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Applicants will need to demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience of Contraception services and method provision.

Competency in LARC procedures (particularly Implant fitting and removal) would be advantageous. If you do not hold LARC fitting competencies, a willingness to undertake training will be required.

You will need to be enthusiastic and passionate about patient centred care, an excellent team player but also be able to work independently when needed. You will also need to be able to work with a diverse range of clients in an innovative sexual health setting.

Job description

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To provide specialised advice for patients accessing SRH services.

To independently assess, plan, treat and evaluate complex programmes of care, with the use of Patient Group Directions (PGDs), or a non-medical prescribing (NMP), qualification.

To practice as a prescriber, if the post-holder has a non-medical prescribing qualification.

To communicate, describe and explain clinical, testing and treatment processes, in language to suit the patient group/audience.

To perform SRH examinations and procedures as clinically indicated/required.

To interpret and deliver test results, providing advice, appropriate treatment, signposting, and follow-up as required.

To ensure patients understand the importance on any medical treatment and follow up requirements.

To deliver an effective and appropriate results management process, in line with local guidance.

To administer vaccines and injections when clinically appropriate.

To assess patients and provide appropriate contraceptive advice, consultation, and choice of method in a timely manner, inclusive of people with complex needs.

To provide Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), pre-assessment consultations and appointments in a timely manner.

To fit and remove LARC when appropriately trained, or undertake training where required.

To support patients in identifying and reducing any risks taken within their sexual behaviours.

To provide assessment and a safe, non-judgemental environment, enabling patients to ask questions and discuss any concerns, providing appropriate signposting and/or referral.

To manage and respond to SRH enquiries from the public and partners/stakeholders, including discussing risk and responding appropriately to those who are anxious or high risk.

To be competent in the management of young people and vulnerable adults, working within Fraser Guidelines and mental capacity legislation, liaising with the multi-disciplinary team, EEC, and local safeguarding teams/services as appropriate.

Communication

Be conversant with the roles of all the staff within the service and with other colleagues internal or external to the organisation.
