Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Practitioner (Clinical, Counselling or Health) Psychologist to join our Clinical Health Psychology Service. This is a full time, 8a role, in our General Medicine Service. We would also consider a recently qualified Practitioner Psychologist for a 7-8a development role. The post holder will be based at Cross Street Health Centre in Dudley, with the expectation that they will work across Dudley and Wolverhampton, according to service need. The key medical specialities the postholder will work with are Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Diabetes, Respiratory and Renal. The aim of our service is to decrease psychological distress, improve quality of life, patient experience and enhance wellbeing in those who have a physical health condition, supporting people to live well, alongside their condition.
Main duties of the job
The service offers psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to patients from the pathways/teams/Consultants outlined above. A further comprehensive psychological assessment is in place for those undergoing a live donor kidney transplant. The service also offers teaching, training and consultancy to staff from these multi-disciplinary teams to enable them to manage psychological issues with their patients and incorporate psychological principles into their own practice. This provides the postholder with variety in their work and the opportunity to use the full range of their skills.
Job description
The Clinical Health Psychology team comprises a large group of Clinical, Counselling and Health Psychologists working across Dudley, Sandwell and Wolverhampton with a wide range of physical health conditions. There are good opportunities for peer support and development. BCHFT employs a very large number of Psychological Professionals across, Adult Mental Health, Older Adults, Learning Disabilities and Childrens Services. So, there is an excellent structure of professional support and opportunities for development. The Trust has recently invested in a fully funded CPD package for Psychological Professionals that would be available to the successful applicant.
About us
We will use the stepped care model based on the guidance, with physical health psychology offering direct work with the most complex patients and supporting the team to work with lower-level distress via teaching and training, supervision and consultation.
There is good professional support and supervision in place, from the Principal Clinical Psychologist who leads the General Medicine Service and also from the wider Clinical Health Psychology Team.
