Midwife/Neonatal Nurse for Perinatal Patient Safety and QINHS
Job summary
The post holder will provide specialist perinatal experience, advice and leadership within perinatal patient safety and quality improvements, supporting women, birthing people, babies and families across the perinatal pathway. They will support the Safety Lead for Maternity, Gynaecology and Paediatric services in their role.
Main purpose of the role is support the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework within perinatal services, including participation in incident reviews, learning responses, investigations and thematic reviews. They will support clinical teams using QI methodology to embed learning from incidents within practice. The role is suitable for an experienced midwife or neonatal nurse with interest in patient safety and has knowledge and experience of QI methodology.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will apply specialist knowledge, analytical judgement and professional expertise to support the identification, review and response to patient safety incidents.
- Support implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework within perinatal services, including participation in incident reviews, learning responses, investigations and thematic reviews.
- Lead or coordinate learning from perinatal patient safety incidents, ensuring immediate actions are escalated, learning is identified and improvements are embedded into clinical practice.
- Maintain and support effective incident reporting processes for perinatal services, ensuring incidents and near misses are reviewed, graded, investigated and escalated appropriately in line with internal and external requirements
- They will work with multidisciplinary teams, women, birthing people and families to ensure learning is identified, shared and translated into measurable improvements in clinical practice, experience and outcomes.
- They will support the Patient Safety Lead for Maternity, Paediatrics and Gynaecology in their role and deputise when required.
- Provide specialist advice, support and education to the perinatal team on patient safety and quality improvement.
- They will provide support for the PMR midwife in her role in times of increased activity, gain knowledge on the PMR processes, so in times of increased activity and absence can undertake this role
