Job summary
We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated pharmacy technician with the potential and desire to develop through an exciting and varied role in Critical Care and Theatres. Depending on the post holder there is also the option to provide service to other clinical areas.
Our pharmacy medicines optimisation teams provide near patient services such as medicines reconciliation, drug history taking and discharge facilitation. Critical care cares for the sickest patients in the Trust and offers unique opportunities to challenge usual medicines management processes. Theatres are also an area of practice that offers new and exciting opportunities different to you would see on a standard ward. We are a dynamic department and have invested in new technologies such as electronic prescribing and robotics.
The post holder will cover both Critical Care, Theatres and potentially other clinical areas across RCHT and may need to be flexible to cover leave and sickness
There is also weekend working of one weekend day every 5 weeks with a day off in lieu.
Main duties of the job
To dispense for in-patient, out-patient and patient discharge, including oral cytotoxic medication and controlled drugs.
To perform controlled drug stock checks and investigate discrepancies as required, reporting any unresolved deviations to your line manager.
Perform accurate drug histories and medicines reconciliations for patients at RCHT including critically unwell patients on the ICU and/or EPOC.
To ensure accuracy of work during all stages of the dispensing process and to pass the Southwest dispensing accuracy assessment every 2 years.
To ensure records and controls are correctly maintained using the pharmacy computer system and paper records and by following the Pharmacy Archive procedure.
Ensuring high quality medicines management across Critical Care and Theatres through regular checks and auditing of medicines storage including fridge and controlled medicines.
To work closely with the pharmacy stores team to ensure appropriate stock is available at point of patient care and levels are adjusted based on acuity of critical care and theatres.
