Are you an experienced SaLT who is looking to extend your clinical leadership skills? We are a dynamic mental health AHP service, looking for someone who can bring in highly specialist SaLT skills and knowledge and transfer this to a community and inpatient setting. This is a permanent post and the ideal post holder will be comfortable working in the community and in - patient ward.

East London Foundation Trust is looking for a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT), to join the City & Hackney mental health team for working age adults Joining an MDT working with individuals with mental health issues, some of whom are Autistic. Experience working within Mental Health settings is essential for this role.

Dysphagia experience is highly desirable.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership, supervision and professional development support for junior speech and language therapists and students based within C&H MH

To provide expert advice and highly specialist speech and language therapy assessment and intervention for adults with mental Health and their carers/families.

Highly specialist assessment and advice on feeding / dysphagia and management of complex cases.

To ensure that speech and language therapy input within C&H reflects current best practice and is evidence-based.

To collate both quantitative and qualitative information regarding speech and language therapy referrals, interventions and outcomes and use this information to inform service development.

To be actively involved in service development initiatives both within forensics and in the wider context providing an expert speech and language therapy perspective.

To promote integrated and collaborative working both within and across forensics, ELFT and with external providers.

To work closely with SaLT Manager, Lead Clinicians, Senior Practitioners and other disciplines within forensics; Primary and Secondary health services; social care teams, and other organisations that support people with mental health in C&H

This job description, summary/purpose is not exhaustive, but is intended to give an overall picture of the role and associated responsibilities.

Responsible for the assessment, differential diagnosis, advice, development and implementation of highly specialist treatment plans for a caseload of adults with mental health with highly complex needs.

To maintain appropriate records in line with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists guidelines.

To continually develop and evaluate clinical practice, and achieve goals set for personal and professional development.

To identify, plan, deliver and evaluate highly specialist training.

To provide highly specialist clinical support to other Speech and Language Therapists, assistants, students and volunteers.

To be involved in clinical governance/audit projects within local service.

To act as clinical resource for issues relating to the highly specialist area of people in C&H MH.

To have plan the provision of resource for Speech and Language Therapy input into C&H MH

To hold a highly specialist caseload of adults with C&H MH

To act as clinical lead for communication and / or dysphagia with people with mental health who have offended within medium and low secure services. To assess and manage a dysphagia caseload.

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of professional and clinical work, working to agreed local, national, and professional standards.

In addition to this the post holder will provide specialist advice to the Trust and support the organisation through the provision of resources, training, and education.
