The Thames Valley Forensic Mental Health Service is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Physical Fitness Practitioner to join its Medium Secure Service in Oxford. The successful candidate would be based on Oxford Clinic a two ward unit for male patients. The two wards are Kennet an acute ward with 15 beds and Glyme a rehabilitation ward with 17 beds. The role will involve working with individuals detained under the Mental Health Act.

An informal discussion about the opportunity, or a visit, is strongly encouraged. To be successful in this role you should have a level 2 fitness instructor qualification including CIMSPA/REPS.

This post attracts RSU allowance of £1,466 per year on top of the basic salary.

Main duties of the job

As the Physical Fitness Practitioner you will be responsible for setting up and running the gym and sports programmes within the unit and developing sports and leisure links within the community. You will work with individual patients to support them in achieving their goals in relation to health and fitness and understanding of healthy living, including smoking cessation advice.

To plan, develop and provide health and fitness services in group settings or with individual patients.To provide a programme of therapeutic activities appropriate to patients need within the service and establish service guidelines.
