Job summary

You will be joining a friendly and supportive Dermatology Department, which provides comprehensive Dermatology services at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital.

The Department is looking to appoint a part time Band 6 Specialist Nurse to work within the Dermatology team.

We are a progressive forward thinking department with a positive approach at meeting and delivering the current challenges of the NHS. The Dermatology Nursing team work alongside a large team including Dermatology Consultants, Registrars, speciality Doctors, a Nurse lead Biologics team, and a Nurse lead skin cancer/sarcoma team.

Main duties of the job

Under direction of the Lead Specialist Nurse:

  • Deliver specialist dermatology nursing care within outpatient clinics.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care for patients with a wide range of dermatological conditions.
  • Undertake comprehensive physical and psychological assessments, recognising the significant impact of skin disease on quality of life.
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness, identify adverse effects and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Provide expert education and support to patients, relatives and carers, promoting self-management and shared decision-making.Maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant clinical documentation.
  • Participate in virtual, telephone and face-to-face consultations where appropriate.
  • Act as a clinical role model, promoting professional standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the dermatology nursing service.Supervise Band 5 nurses, nursing associates, healthcare support workers and students.
  • Participate in staff appraisals, induction, competency assessment and performance development where delegated.
  • Deputise for the Senior Sister/Lead Nurse as required.
  • Promote a positive learning environment and support staff wellbeing.
