Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Team Lead Physiotherapist to join our well-established MSK Outpatient Service at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
This is a permanent part-time position (22.5 hours per week). The agreed working pattern must include Monday and Tuesday to ensure leadership cover throughout the week.
The successful applicant will have extensive NHS MSK experience and be confident in delivering evidence-based assessment and treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
The role provides operational and clinical leadership to the outpatient team at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing a complex clinical caseload, overseeing waiting lists, leading a range of clinical governance activities, and providing line management, supervision, and development support to physiotherapy and clerical staff within the department.
The post holder will also support the Service Lead in the ongoing development and improvement of the wider MSK Physiotherapy Service, helping to achieve agreed clinical and financial performance targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Main duties of the job
- Taking responsibility for an independent clinical caseload within the speciality.
- Assisting in the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of the MSK Physiotherapy Service at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
- Providing supervision, support and education to registered and non-registered therapy staff, as well as other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Participating in departmental audit and research activities to support evidence-based practice.
- Undertaking a team leader role in the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of physiotherapy services within the MSK outpatients.
- Providing expert clinical advice and support to physiotherapists regarding the assessment, treatment and management of patients within the MSK outpatient service.
- Communicating effectively with the multidisciplinary team to support comprehensive assessment, clinical decision-making and, where appropriate, admission avoidance.
- Working closely with the Clinical Lead to ensure inpatient and outpatient services are delivered efficiently, effectively and in line with agreed service objectives and performance standards.

Clinical
Provides expert, patient-centred physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients with complex and often multi-pathology presentations. Responsible for managing a specialist caseload, developing evidence-based treatment plans, evaluating outcomes, supporting discharge planning, maintaining high standards of clinical documentation, and working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. Acts as a specialist resource within the service, contributes to service development, manages waiting lists as appropriate, and supports the safe delivery of MSK services.
Communications
Communicates effectively with patients, relatives, carers and healthcare professionals, including those with significant communication barriers. Gains valid consent, explains diagnoses and treatment plans, maintains accurate clinical records, prepares reports and discharge summaries, and works closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, seamless patient care. Provides leadership and clear communication within the physiotherapy team, particularly in the absence of the Therapy Service Lead for Outpatients.
Education and Training
Maintains and develops specialist clinical knowledge through ongoing professional development and reflective practice. Supports the education, supervision and appraisal of staff, students and colleagues, delivering training and competency assessment where required. Contributes to audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives, promotes evidence-based practice, and plays an active role in departmental and multidisciplinary education programmes.
Organisation and Management
Supports the leadership, organisation and development of the MSK physiotherapy service, ensuring effective use of resources and delivery of high-quality care. Manages workloads, prioritises clinical activity, supervises staff, contributes to workforce management and service planning, and supports the implementation of service improvements. Deputises for the Therapy Service Leadwhen required and assists in ensuring appropriate staffing, rota management, governance compliance and performance monitoring.
Professional
Maintains HCPC registration and works in accordance with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy standards, Trust policies and professional codes of conduct. Takes responsibility for personal continuing professional development, clinical governance, reflective practice and maintaining professional competence. Contributes to research, audit and service development activities to support continuous improvement and the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy services.
