Job summary

Dermatology is a busy outpatient service delivering specialist care to a diverse patient population. The receptionist plays a key role in ensuring patients receive a welcoming, efficient and positive experience throughout their visit.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Receptionist to join the Dermatology team. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for patients attending the department, providing a professional, friendly and efficient reception service.

The role involves welcoming and checking in patients, managing appointments, responding to telephone and face-to-face enquiries, supporting patients and visitors, and liaising with clinical and administrative colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the department. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to work effectively in a busy environment, and demonstrate a caring and patient-focused approach at all times.

Main duties of the job

To meet and receive all customers into any of the reception areas covered by theDermatology department, including the checking-in of booked patients for theirappointments, and the safe and tidy keeping of the Dermatology waiting area.

Job description

Reception responsibilitiesTo meet and receive all customers into the Dermatology department andadvise appropriate Dermatology staff of their arrival.To receive and check in on the database all patients scheduled forappointments.To be responsible for the distribution of departmental post.To support patients/carers when they are distressed involving theprofessional team members when required.To advise patients/carers of current waiting times.To liaise with ambulance control for patient return journeys.To be responsible for the safe and tidy waiting room environment.8. To book follow up appointments where necessary/required.General responsibilitiesTo deal with telephone enquiries from out-patient nurses and other Truststaff.To operate, input and retrieve data using the Trust PAS system, and e-mailapplication.Development responsibilitiesTo undertake training as necessary.To assist in the development of team colleagues.To participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve setobjectives.To participate in team, professional and personal development activities andpromote commitment to continuous development and improvement.Policies/Complaints/H&STo ensure that all staff consciously review mistakes, complaints andincidents/near misses as well as successes to improve performance and thelevel of customer care.To ensure that all Trust standards are maintained and monitored to improvethe quality of care to all whom come into contact with services provided bySouth Warwickshire General Hospitals NHS Trust.Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of the health and safetyof him/herself and of other persons who may be affected by his/her acts oromissions at work and cooperate with the Trust to ensure that statutory andTrust regulations are compiled with.
