An exciting opportunity has arisen for an additional part-time fixed term band 7 clinical/counselling psychologist role within the established adult Cancer & Haematology Psychology & Psychotherapy Services (CHaPPS) at UCLH. The psychology team in CHaPPS work across adult inpatient and outpatient settings within the specialist haematology, oncology and cancer services within UCLH.

The CHaPPS team is a large, established, friendly and supportive team of psychologists and psychotherapists with good links with other UCLH and NHS psychology services and university training courses.

Psychology provision is an integral part of UCLH's world-class highly specialist multidisciplinary services and the Trust's haematology and cancer care are at the forefront of health care in the UK and internationally. Following the provision of recent fixed term charitable funding for the development of the innovative gene therapy services within haemoglobinopathy care at UCLH, additional psychology funding to backfill an existing band 7 psychology post (leading on the provision of the haemoglobinopathy psychology gene therapy service) is available for a 12 month post.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a motivated, highly skilled and enthusiastic clinician who has experience in cancer and clinical health psychology services and has a strong interest in the opportunity to work as part of a variety of multidisciplinary and multiprofessional teams within an acute hospital setting.

This post involves providing inpatient and outpatient psychology care to people referred to CHaPPS with a haematology or oncology diagnosis and will also include supporting the consultation, supervision, reflective practice and training needs of non-psychologists and multidisciplinary staff within the UCLH cancer and haematology services.

The post holder will work as part of a large multiprofessional team of clinicians providing supportive and psychological care across cancer and haematology services. Supervision and line management will be provided by senior experienced clinical and counselling psychologists in leadership roles within the CHaPPS team. There are also opportunities to link up with other psychologists and psychotherapists working across other medical specialities at UCLH and the service has strong links with university clinical psychology training courses. Clinicians within the service are supported to continue their ongoing professional development and are also encouraged to engage in audit and research as part of their regular work roles.

A minimum of a 0.5 wte post is available but additional hours are likely to be available, as required, for the successful candidate.

The successful applicant will be required to work the majority of their work hours on-site in order to meet the needs of in-person inpatient and outpatient clinical work within the UCLH service. Candidates must have completed doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society (or hold a British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence) and they should be registered as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC.

All applicants must have: a completed doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or be scheduled to complete training by October 2026 registration as a practitioner psychologist within the HCPC or eligibility for registration subsequent to completion of DClinPsy, DCounsPsy, DPsych or PsychD qualification by October 2026 clinical skills using at least two different therapeutic approaches

This psychology post involves providing on-site inpatient and outpatient psychology care to people referred to CHaPPS with a haematology or oncology diagnosis. It may also include supporting consultation, supervision, reflective practice and training activities for non-psychologists and multidisciplinary staff within the UCLH cancer and haematology services. The postholder will be expected to attend regular multidisciplinary and treatment planning meetings.Interviews will be held in person at the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre on Huntley Street, London WC1E 6DH
