Job summary

Exciting opportunity to lead on vascular therapy in the acute setting and provide specialised rehabilitation to a complex group of patients. This role would be suitable for a band 6 with vascular experience or a band 7 physiotherapist.

Provide specialist assessment and management for patients with complex Vascular, respiratory, and multi-pathology surgical conditions, including acute amputee rehabilitation and pre-amputation assessment, Holistic management of critical care patients.

Lead on the development and delivery of physiotherapy input within Vascular, Amputees and Complex surgery.

Support theorganisation,prioritisation, and coordination of referrals across the Vascular and Amputee pathway

Provide supervision, line management, and clinical leadership to junior physiotherapists and occupational therapists, assistants, and students

Contribute to service development, clinical audit, qualityimprovementand research

Participate in the 7-day workingrotaand respiratory on-call service.

Job description

Key responsibilities Workings relationships and communication Communicate complex, sensitive, and sometimes distressing information to patients and families, including prognosis, rehabilitation potential, and treatment complexity

Use advanced communication strategies with patients who have cognitive, communication, or physical barriers (e.g., tracheostomy, intubation, dysphasia, reduced consciousness).

Work collaboratively within the MDT to support safe,timelydischarge planning and coordinated care.

Provide written documentation including discharge summaries, therapy reports, care plans, and MDT contributions in line with CSP and Trust standards.

Deliver teaching and training to MDT colleagues, students, and physiotherapy staff.

Communicate performance feedback and support PDPs for junior staff.

Clinical Responsibilities Undertake highlyspecialist assessment and treatment of patients with acute and complex vascular and surgical presentations- including complex surgical and critical care rehabilitation and amputee rehabilitation

Other patient groups you will be responsible for are- Critical illness, complex respiratory compromise, highdependency needs, Multi-pathology, frailty, complex discharge needs

Interpret andanalyseadvanced diagnostics including CXR/CT/MRI imaging and complex medical information.

Formulateindividualisedtreatment plans using advanced clinical reasoning.

Identifyand respond promptly to acutely deteriorating patients, escalating appropriately

Support seamless transitions across acute, community, and outpatient services.

Prioritiseand manage own and team caseloads based on clinical need.

Maintainhigh standardsof clinical governance, safety, and risk management.

Leadership and Management Responsibilities Linemanageandsupervisejunior physiotherapists, assistants, and students.

Support recruitment,inductionand workforce planning.

Support management of service cover, annual/study leave, and sickness.

Manage conflict sensitively within teams and follow Trust HR processes as needed.

Deputisefor senior leads asrequired.

Ensure safe and effective use of therapy equipment, includingassessing forand ordering specialist items.

Lead and contribute to audits, quality improvement projects,researchand evaluation of service outcomes.

Deliver and contribute to inservice training across the service.

Participate in Trust and regional networks to support evidence-based practice and guideline development.

Contribute to strategic planning and operational development of Vascular and complex rehabilitation of surgical patients

Handling difficult situations Provide empathetic support for patients and families experiencing distress,uncertaintyor deterioration.

Work in emotionally demanding environments, including critical care and deteriorating patients

Physical Demands

Frequent moderate to intense physical effort for patient mobility,positioningand manual therapy.

Exposure to bodily fluids and challenging clinical environments.

Work flexibly across areas, including rapid transitions during emergencies.

Occasional lone working in community or offward areas with remote senior support.
