Job description

Main Purpose of the Role

To provide high-quality, patient-centred general medical services to the practice population, working as part of a supportive and collaborative multidisciplinary team.

The postholder will provide clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions, while contributing to the continued development of the practice and wider Primary Care Network.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Undertake approximately 25 patient consultations per day, with appointments scheduled at 15-minute intervals.
  • Provide appropriate clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients presenting with both acute and chronic conditions.
  • Manage patients holistically, considering their physical, psychological and social needs.
  • Refer patients appropriately to secondary care and other healthcare professionals where clinically indicated.
  • Prescribe safely and appropriately in accordance with current guidance and practice policies.
  • Review and manage results, clinical correspondence and other investigations within agreed practice systems.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up and safety-netting advice to patients.
  • Participate in chronic disease management and preventative healthcare where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including the practice nursing team, ACP, Paramedic and PCN-supported services.

The GP will be expected to:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the practice team.
  • Participate in clinical meetings and practice discussions as required.
  • Support the learning and development environment within the practice.
  • Contribute to practice development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work constructively with PCN colleagues and other local healthcare professionals.

Professional Responsibilities

The postholder will:

  • Maintain professional registration with the GMC and comply with relevant professional standards.
  • Maintain appropriate continuing professional development and undertake annual appraisal and revalidation requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical competence and keep up to date with current evidence and guidelines.
  • Comply with practice policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with data protection legislation.
  • Participate in appropriate clinical governance and significant event processes.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of patient care and team working.

Our clinical team

You will be joining an experienced and friendly clinical team comprising four GP Partners, three Salaried GPs, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) and a Paramedic.

We work closely together and value a collaborative approach to patient care. As a training practice, we also enjoy supporting learning and development across the whole team.

Excellent multidisciplinary support

Our involvement with the Deal and Sandwich PCN means our clinical team is supported by a range of additional professionals, including an Early Help Care Home Team, Social Prescribers, Pharmacists, First Contact Physiotherapists and Adult and Child Mental Health Practitioners.

This wider multidisciplinary approach provides valuable support to our GPs and patients, helping us to provide holistic care and ensuring patients can access the right services and expertise.
