Job summary
This current vacancy is for 2 Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager posts for Prospect Unit (male acute- AOWA) and 1 Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager for Priestners Unit (PICU).
Atherleigh Park Hospital comprises of:
- 2 Adults of Working age male acute wards, 1 Adults of working age female acute ward, 1 female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), 1 mixed sex older adult ward.
- An assessment suite (specifically for people needing a place of safety and assessment under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act).
- A variety of internal activity areas, specifically designed to aid recovery.
This post places particular emphasis on patient centered care and therapeutic engagement, least restrictive practice ensuring all aspects of direct patient care are delivered at the highest quality. A key element of this post will be to support and provide sound clinical interventions to service users and clinical leadership on a day-to-day, shift-to-shift basis for a group of staff on a designated clinical area. The post holder will work in collaboration with the Ward Manager to develop and transform the nursing care provision, ensuring that it supports and reflects service user mental health and physical needs, is culturally appropriate, and compliant with professional guidance.
Main duties of the job
Deputy Ward Managers at Atherleigh Park are active members of the ward leadership team, responsible for supporting the Ward Manager in the operational and clinical leadership of the Ward.
As a Deputy Ward Manager, your responsibilities willbe;
- Up hold the values of the ward promoting openness, transparency and learning
- Supervision of junior staff
- Enthusiastic mentor to new staff, newly qualified nurses and junior staff
- Oversee certain areas of clinical expertise such as medication management and physical health provision on the ward
- Support the Ward Manager with HR tasks such as return to works and sickness monitoring
- Accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Manage shifts as a nurse in charge
- Conducting thorough assessments of risks and risk management plans to support incidents on the ward.
