Job summary
The role requires the post holder to act independently and to work alongside their leadership colleagues within the Trusts Safeguarding Team to prioritise, make decisions and provide expert advice on complex and challenging situations, to ensure staff across the organisation effectively safeguard patients.
The Named Nurse/Professional for Safeguarding Adults will:
- Lead the safeguarding adults, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, PREVENT and Domestic Abuse agendas, supported by the Head of Safeguarding to ensure East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust meets its statutory responsibilities to safeguard patients within our care and our local community, with a particular focus on safeguarding adults at risk across the Organisation.
- The role will lead and improve the efficient and effective management of resources so that the services and staff are able to meet the needs of adults at risk consistently providing excellent quality of care.
- Have an in-depth knowledge of relevant law, national and local guidance pertaining to safeguarding e.g. Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Adult Safeguarding: Roles and Competences for Healthcare Staff 2nd Edition 2024 and both local and national multi-agency safeguarding procedures.
- Line manage members of the Safeguarding Team to support in the delivery of the Safeguarding Teams annual objectives in relation to adults at risk.
Main duties of the job
- Offer Trust Wide support and advice to colleagues who have safeguarding concerns in relation to adults at risk.
- Support and advise other professionals on the management of all forms of abuse, including relevant legal frameworks and documentation.
- Make considered judgements about how to act to safeguard adults at risk and be able to instigate measures including local safeguarding escalation arrangements to prevent drift of cases and to reduce the risk of harm.
- Deliver SAFE, PERSONAL and EFFECTIVE care as part of a partnership between managerial and clinical staff. All aspects of the role will be conducted within a multi-agency/multi-disciplinary team philosophy.
- Actively encourage and support frontline staff to adopt a "think family" approach and consider the needs of dependents and caring responsibilities when providing care.
- Develop self and contribute to the development of others including supporting the provision of Safeguarding Training and supervision.
- Can write and deliver comprehensive reports to the Safeguarding Committee. Participate in the completion of an annual safeguarding report, including the ability to collate and present data in relation to safeguarding adults at risk.
- Plan, deliver and evaluate safeguarding interventions when there are complex issues, including communication and liaison with other acute providers and statutory agencies.
