Job summary

The Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust is excited to expand its Band 6 workforce for the Urgent Treatment Centre at Pontefract Hospital.

We provide GP and Nurse led care 365 days a year including nights covering minor illness and injuries to both adults and paediatric patients and out of hours GP services linked to the 111 service when local GP surgeries are closed.

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated, flexible Nurse with Accident and Emergency experience to join our busy established Urgent Treatment Centre who has a passion for delivering safe, high-quality care to patients in an acute setting.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for:

  • Initial assessment of patients attending the Urgent Treatment Centre to navigate the patients to the most appropriate care, completing NEWS2 and PAWS scoring including those presenting with complex conditions, carrying out appropriate baseline investigations such as ECGs and Urinalysis.
  • Implementation of Planned Care as determined by the clinician overseeing patients care.
  • To support the Clinicians in the management and treatment of sometimes complex clinical consultations.
  • To work closely with our Multi-disciplinary team and support their work and treatments where required.
  • Act upon concerns regarding child and adult safeguarding within agreed protocols, trust policies and legislation.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and electronic records.
  • Participate in the care of critically ill/deteriorating patients.
  • Arrange, co-ordinate and participate in safe hospital transfer of patients, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care.
  • Undertake daily checks of Urgent Care Centre equipment, and report any faults to relevant department or person.
  • Participate in the change process to meet future needs of the service.
  • Assist in maintenance of stock levels of all clinical equipment, drugs and supplies and order as necessary.

Job description

Qualifications:

  • Current NMC Registration
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development
  • University Accredited Nurse
  • Post Registration Qualification in ED Nursing/Critical Care Nursing or equivalent
  • Post Registration Qualification in Mentorship/Training

Experience:

  • Sufficient or significant proven experience in Accident and Emergency/critical care
  • Evidence of participating in the development of patient care

Knowledge and Awareness:

  • Awareness of current professional nursing issues
  • Mentorship and preceptorship skills
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal and professional autonomy and professional accountability
  • Awareness of own limitations
