Job summary

An exciting 8 month Fixed term/Secondment opportunity has arisen within the Resuscitation Team for a Resuscitation Officer.

The Resuscitation Officer (RO) will be responsible for the planning, organisation and delivery of both basic and advanced life support training throughout the Trust. He/she will be expected to respond to adult cardiac arrest calls, paediatric emergency calls, acting as an expert member of the team and facilitating experiential learning and team debrief. On occasion the RO will be expected to lead the cardiac arrest team.

He/she will encourage evidence-based practice Trust wide by developing and revising hospital resuscitation guidelines, procedures and training in the light of new research and audit.

Main duties of the job

Devise appropriate methods for teaching and implementing policies, procedures, national guidelines and other important information relating to all aspects of resuscitation, including 'DNACPR'.Assume the role of cardiac arrest team leader, as he/she deems necessary. This will involve making decisions in highly complex and emotive clinical situations, where a wide range or treatment options exist.Promote the importance of resuscitation throughout the Trust through negotiation and presentation of the specialist knowledge and skills required for the resuscitation of adults and children.Plan, modify and implement multidisciplinary teaching programmes throughout the Trust for a wide range of clinical staff (including medical staff, nurses, midwives and professions allied to medicine.Support staff in the provision of ethical and patient-centred resuscitation in accordance with the Trust's Cardiac Arrest Policy.Institute debriefing and support to all Trust staff following emergency situations, to promote reflective practice and offer support/constructive feedback. This will involve dealing with staff (and on occasion's relatives) who have witnessed deeply distressing situations/serious incidents using and empathetic approach.
