The Outpatient Neurology service provides outpatient care for Stroke, Parkinson's , MS and Vestibular patients. You will lead a team of a 1 x band 6, and band 4 Physiotherapy technician. There are established land based classes to aid patient's rehabilitation and self-management of their neurological condition. We require the applicant to use innovative thinking and strong working relationships and excellent clinical skills to maintain and enhance high standards of care.

The Outpatient neurology service at Northwick Park provide rehabilitation to a very diverse caseload. It requires the applicant to have a broad knowledge of neurology, an ability to empower patients and their families to follow a rehabilitation approach and to self-manage their condition.

You'll manage service development projects across the Adult Therapies department, as well as support the wider MDT to continue to develop a bar-raising neurology outpatient service. We're big on collaboration. That means you'll get to share expertise, advice, and new ideas on how to improve the experience for our many, many patients.

We're looking for an HCPC-registered Band 7 physiotherapist who has experience gained in community outpatient, acute and rehab in-patient services. In this key role in our teaching Trust, you'll also need experience of supervising others in their day-to-day role. As you'll get the chance to rotate, we'd expect to see evidence of the clinical application of core therapy and reasoning skills - as well as some knowledge of wide-ranging assessments and interventions for patients with varied neurological conditions. Developmental positions will be considered starting at a band 6 level and progressing to a band 7 position once key competencies are met.

Job description

Summary of the role

As an autonomous practitioner to assess and treat own case load and provide a highly specialist neurology physiotherapy service to patients.

To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), assessing and treating patients with highly complex neurological disability and maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records.

To work jointly with other Band Physiotherapists to clinically lead the outpatient neurological physiotherapy service.

To work closely with the cross-site Head of Inpatient Physiotherapy, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist for Neurology and MSK Therapy Lead to support the development of the Neurology Out Physiotherapy Service.

To contribute to the management of all aspects of the Neurology Outpatient Physiotherapy Service. This includes prioritising and organising all referrals to the neurology service and helping monitor waiting lists.

To be responsible for the development and appraisal of the team members, including Band 6,5,4, and students.

To regularly provide formal and informal, on-going training and education to physiotherapy staff, other healthcare professions and students.

To engage in own continued professional development (CPD) and service development.

To take a lead on clinical audit within the team and undertake research.

To participate in the weekend working rota (1 in 5 weekends).

The successful applicant will need to:

Have experience as a band 6 in neurology and experience across a range of acute and rehabilitation settings.
