Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join West (Birmingham) Early Intervention in Psychosis Team. Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service's overall aim is to support and minimise the debilitating effects of having a psychotic illness. We work with service users aged 16-35 experiencing first episode psychosis (FEP) for up to three years.We work on an assertive outreach model so have a flexible,creativeand proactive approach to engaging service users and promoting their recovery.

The core features of the EIP model are based on the NICE guidance for young people and adults for psychosis and schizophrenia (2014) and the new national standards for EIP (2016).

EIP has a strong culture of multidisciplinary team working within a supportive working environment.

The CNS will be responsible for a designated caseload and be responsible for non-medical nurse prescribing for an identified caseload whilst supporting with the Leadership within the West Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) team. The CNS will also undertake prescribing interventions to patients within the Early Intervention in Psychosis service in conjunction with the Consultant psychiatrist. The CNS will have a detailed understanding of NICE approved psychosocial and pharmacological interventions for those experiencing a First Episode of Psychosis (FEP).

Main duties of the job

. To work as part of the Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and provide leadership support to the wider team.

Provide expertise and support to other professionals in the assessment, medication management and pathway navigation.

Work as an autonomous prescriber utilising medication and diagnostic skills to provide and prescribe care and treatment.

To support education and development of other staff in medicines management and evidence-based use of medicines.

To work as a Qualified Non-medical Prescriber for patients who have been formally assessed and accepted into Early Intervention in Psychosis Service.

To support the delivery of the therapeutic interventions within the West EIP team To signpost service users to third sector providers for further support, where appropriate

To ensure that the service users understand and have a clear pathway of care across sector/agency boundaries with key contact points/named individuals.

Actively participate in clinical matters and policy development relating to nursing practice.

Provide additional clinical leadership within the Early Intervention service.
