We have an exciting opportunity for a Early Days in Custody Practitioner to join our team at HMP Wymott, a Category C male prison located in Leyland. Ideally needs to be a car driver due to location of the prison

HMP Wymott has capacity of around 1,100, and has a varied and complex population

As a Early Days in Custody practitioner supports prisoners during their first days in custody, helping them settle safely into prison life, assessing their needs and vulnerabilities, identifying safeguarding concerns, providing emotional and practical support, and working with prison staff and other agencies to ensure appropriate care and support

Hours:

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Tuesday - 8.30am - 6.30pm
  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - 8.30am - 7pm

Salary:

This position is full time, youll receive an annual salary between £34,428 - £41,659 per annum - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Early Days in Custody Practitioner, your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • As the Early Days in Custody Practitioner (Adult Nurse or Paramedic) your responsibilities will include ensuring patients have medical plans of care, assessing patients and carrying out relevant clinical investigations during their arrival, along with arranging follow-up appointments for them whilst offering advice and giving information.
  • You must be able to clinically evaluate and ensure the safe transfer of patients to acute hospitals if needed, as well as ensuring that plans of care are understood by the patient and the prison as appropriate. You will be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills in clinical decision making.
  • As part of your role you will support in undertaking audits and governance.
  • You will provide healthcare to patients on site in the healthcare unit and locations across the prison. This will include some emergency care such as suturing, providing emergency response to undertaking dressings and performing a primary care function

Qualifications required

  • Registered nurse Adult NMC
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, QOF, EBP and national standards
  • Understanding of audit and datix

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
