An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Phlebotomist at Huntcliff Surgery.

This is a permanent position working 17.5 hours per week:

Monday: 8.30am - 4pm, including a 30 minute unpaid break.

Tuesday: 12.30pm - 4pm

Wednesday: 12.30pm - 4pm

Thursday: 12.30pm - 4pm

Huntcliff Surgery is a busy and friendly GP Practice serving approximately 10,000 patients in the Victorian seaside town of Saltburn by the Sea.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the practice nursing and wider multi disciplinary team, the post holder will provide a safe, efficient and patient centred phlebotomy service to our practice population.

The role will primarily involve undertaking venepuncture, confirming patient identity and consent, accurately labelling and recording samples, maintaining clear clinical records on EMIS and ensuring samples are prepared for timely collection by the laboratory.

The post holder will work collaboratively with clinical and non clinical colleagues, communicate with patients in a kind and reassuring manner and seek appropriate clinical guidance where required.

The successful candidate will be expected to work within their level of competence, follow practice policies and procedures and contribute positively to a culture of safety, teamwork, accountability and high quality patient care.

Job description

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample

Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

Maintaining accurate patient records on EMIS clinical system

The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples

Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at South Tees Foundation Trust.

Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
