Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join our Treatment Room Service on a Maternity Leave 30 Hour Per week, 12 Month Contract until 1st September, 2027.

The treatment service is located across multiple sites in the borough of St Helens. We provide treatment, support and guidance for a wide range of health issues.

An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain a high standard of patient care in accordance with Regulatory Bodies Code of Professional Conduct and within Scope of Professional Practice.
  • Maintain and develop own clinical and professional expertise by participating in clinical supervision, professional development planning and within Regulatory Bodies Code of Professional Conduct and within Scope of Professional Practice.
  • Act as a resource for other members of the Treatment room team.
  • Promote the clinical effectiveness of the nurse-led service using a multidisciplinary team approach.
  • Works autonomously under indirect supervision liaising with team leaders as required.
  • Works in a flexible way to support and maintain good team working practices.
  • Develop skills in the management of a range of minor illness and injuries.
  • Develop and undertake a range of clinical procedures, which may include, suture/clip removal, ear syringing and administration of various injections.

KEY DUTIES

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exercise a high degree of clinical autonomy and professional judgement, treating independently within the treatment room and, where necessary, referring to a range of primary or secondary care services as appropriate.
  • Assess health care needs of patients, diagnose, treat and manage as appropriate.
  • Possess proven skills in the management of a wide range of health care problems, eg Leg ulcer assessment and diagnosis, catheter care, and wound management.
  • Provide health promotion education.
  • Ensure that the nursing practices of the clinical area comply with the Trusts policies and procedures.
  • Identify at risk patients and manage appropriately in accordance with national and local policy and procedures, eg vulnerable children, adults and child protection.
  • Act as an advocate for the patient at all times.
  • Offer a complementary service to that of other health care providers within the local health economy.
  • Utilising own professional knowledge and skills, act as a resource for other members of the team.
  • Empower colleagues and clients and demonstrate the ability to facilitate effective clinical practice based on best evidence.
  • Possess a clear understanding of legal and ethical issues, professional accountability and responsibility.
  • Maintain Professional Registration.
  • Adhere to relevant Code of Practice of Professional body.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To utilise knowledge of systems/procedures in order to appropriately refer patients to alternative/appropriate services/pathways.
  • To ensure that the recording of patient care is comprehensive, concise and in line with national and local policy and procedure for record keeping.

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To facilitate the acquisition of Band 5 grade competencies and skills.
  • Demonstrate a positive commitment to the training and education of pre and post registration students, allied health professionals and colleagues.
  • Identify and disseminate best practice through evidence, clinical guidelines, benchmarking.
  • Maintain and develop own clinical and professional expertise by participation in Clinical Supervision and Personal Development Planning, in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct, and Scope of Professional Practice.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring opportunities for team members and students.
  • Participate in formal and informal teaching sessions to promote clinical excellence within the team.

LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To deputise for the senior nurse when necessary.
  • To act as a role model to junior colleagues and students and a support mechanism for senior colleagues.

RESEARCH & AUDIT

  • Promote a research culture within the treatment room and actively promote the use, publication and dissemination of research evidence.
  • Initiate and actively participate in audit and evaluation of the service.
