Job summary

Following a successful business case for additional funding the podiatry service can offer an exciting opportunity for a fixed term 2 year Band 7 position. The role will be providing foot health assessment & treatment for inpatients at East Surrey Hospital and supporting the diabetic foot strategy with early intervention to prevent foot complications for patients with diabetes during admission.

The role will include supporting the Lead for High-Risk podiatry care and being an active member of the Surrey and Sussex Multidisciplinary Footcare Team (MDFT).

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist footcare and wound care interventions for patients with complex foot and nail problems. The post holder will be clinically responsible for the delivery of the inpatient podiatry service. The successful candidate will work autonomously as well as work as part of the multidisciplinary team. The post requires accepting urgent referrals from Hospital consultants, community podiatrists, and other health professionals and will provide responsive specialist care.

The role will support the education and up-skilling of clinical and care staff managing patients hospital admissions.

The post will be based in at East Surrey Hospital with requirement for 1 day at an FCHC community location (Consort House, Redhill or Caterham Dene Hospital, Caterham).

Job description

To provide leadership for the podiatry service within the field of inpatient podiatry care.

To provide expert clinical practice in the assessment and diagnosis of highly complex podiatric problems and deliver individualised treatment for clients with specialised care needs to maintain their mobility, independence and prevent disability.

To be an active member of the Multidisciplinary Diabetic Footcare Team (MDFT) supporting and deputising for the Lead for High-Risk Podiatry care to ensure continuity of service delivery in both an inpatient and outpatient setting.

Development, implementation and review of patient and clinical pathways, SOPs and clinical guidance for the inpatient podiatric service. Working with Clinical Lead for Podiatry and Orthotics to create business cases to develop the service to maintain up to date patient care in accordance with national policies and local projects.

To support the Lead for High-Risk podiatry care in ongoing development of podiatry staff through clinical rotations, mentoring and supervision. To deliver training podiatrists and other health care practitioners on management of highly complex podiatric patients.
