Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Medical or Clinical Oncologist in urology and colorectal cancer to join our friendly, forward-looking team of oncologists at the James Cook Cancer Institute, caring for patients in Teesside, North Yorkshire and County Durham.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust warmly welcomes applications for this 10 PA post to join the team. We are currently advertising this substantive medical oncology post, however there will also be some other opportunities arising in the next 6-12 months for both clinical or medical oncologists, so if you are interested in working in our cancer centre, you are welcome to get in touch with us.

Candidates who do not wish to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post.

You will be joining existing, experienced teams and there may be some flexibility in the tumour sites we can offer.

Successful applicants will work alongside enthusiastic, dynamic, research active teams who have a track record of innovation and technical developments.

Main duties of the job

Clinical/ on-call responsibilities

  • Maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of Medical and Clinical Oncology.
  • Undertake any responsibility which relates to the agreed special interests.
  • Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
  • Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
  • Be actively involved in the management of the department including attendance at monthly Directorate/Consultant meetings.
  • Take part in annual appraisals (mandatory for all Consultants).
  • Appropriate time and assistance will be provided for preparation.
  • Active involvement in audit and quality improvement.

Involvement in research.

Continuing professional development.

Any other duties which may be required.

Contribute to the on-call system rota.
