We are looking to recruit a self motivated, I.T. literate Semi Skilled with Engineering knowledge to join the Estates team. The post holder will be responsible for maintaining and inspecting the Estates on all 3 Trust properties to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.

The post holder will deliver high quality unsupervised routine maintenance and repair work, that does not justify the attention of a fully qualified craftsperson, related to their training and experience. The post holder will demonstrate a commitment to personal development and willingness to carry out a broad range of appropriate duties

Work as part of the team to respond to high priority emergencies to ensure continuity of service in a vibrant busy hospital. North Tees and Hartlepool Solutions is a subsidiary company.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to undertake maintenance duties and repairs to a wide range of plant and equipment as detailed below:-

Carry out day to day maintenance on the following: Steam boilers and steam systems, Heating, hot and cold water systems, Waste water systems, Emergency generators, Air conditioning systems, Fire fighting equipment, Lighting systems, Patient beds, bedside tables, cot sides, carpentry maintenance and repair work.

Complete regular utilities meter readings for water, gas, electricity and fuel oil.

To record accurately details of works completed including time, date, job content, location and materials used. Update log books, PDA's, registers and other statutory records as directed by Supervisors

Various other types of mechanical and electrical plant and equipment as required

Complete regular utilities meter readings for water, gas, electricity and fuel oil

To record accurately details of works completed including time, date, job content, location and materials used. Update log books, PDAs, registers and other statutory records as directed by Supervisors

Reduce sickness absence; work place accidents; and promote zero tolerance on violence against staff

Communicate with service users in arranging access and confirming work requirements

Demonstrate commitment to IWL principles and flexible working patterns, to meet the needs of the service and staff

Tackle discrimination and harassment, and promote equality and diversity in the workplace

Instruct and mentor apprentices

Participating in shift relief, for which a separate additional payment is made

Carry out planned maintenance tasks, maintain serviceability of associated drain equipment

Take responsibility for personal development and education and the development of a Personal Development Plan

To be prepared to work occasionally in areas, which may be potentially hazardous where a need exists to use a permit to work system, specific health and safety guidance and use personal protective equipment (PPE)

Rectify if possible and make safe any faults discovered and report to Estates Management

Assist Estates Storeperson during busy periods and check / sign deliveries into the Trust

Completion of a wide rang of duties demonstrating skill and flexibility with the minimum of supervision.

Consistently producing high standards of workmanship and within agreed response times to task allocated.

Participate in multi-skilled project / refurbishment schemes.

Compliance of work against core standards and best practice and contribute to promote change to improved performance.

Implement the Trusts policies and procedures in accordance with statutory legislation and NHS Estates guidance.

Promote a positive and professional image to all users of the service.

To carry out any other duties and responsibilities relevant to this post as directed by a more senior officer.
