Following a review of our educational leadership structure, we are excited to introduce a newPractice Development Leadrole within the Emergency Department (ED) and Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

We are seeking an experienced senior Emergency Nurse or Allied Health Professional (AHP) with a passion for education to lead our practice development agenda. The post holder will provide strategic leadership to ensure staff training aligns with evidence-based practice, service priorities, and organisational objectives.

As a clinical expert, you will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to identify learning needs and design, deliver, and evaluate educational programmes. You will support staff in developing clinical competence, promoting professional growth, and fostering a culture of inclusion, well-being, and continuous learning.

The role includes leading and influencing a team of Clinical Practice Facilitators, and working closely with the ED Consultant Nurse, Senior Matron, Senior leadership team, Trust education leads, and Higher Education Institutions.

This role is pivotal in enhancing patient outcomes, improving staff experience, and embedding a culture of excellence within the service.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include overseeing professional development across all staff groups, ensuring compliance with statutory and mandatory training, supporting personalised inductions, and contributing to clinical governance, audit, research, and quality improvement.

  • To work in accordance with the NMC/HCPC code
  • To ensure that their own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge and the latest evidence-based practice
  • Develop clinical practice in line with national evidence and role model high standards of clinical care and leadership to ED staff
  • Create bespoke training packages to address service demand and enhance clinical practice and leadership skills within the ED
  • To lead the development of nursing practice and policy within Urgent and Emergency care, exploring new roles and ways of working for nurses/AHPs.
  • To produce written accounts of each episode of clinical facilitation, documenting learning achieved and areas for further development
  • To demonstrate specialist knowledge in clinical settings and support the advancement of knowledge and skills, using approved assessment procedures.
  • To work effectively as part of the multi-professional, inter-disciplinary team, encouraging and supporting other health professions in the promotion and maintenance of an effective learning environment.
