Job summary

This is a replacement post for a Clinical Fellow in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) (full-time) based at Royal Brompton site of the Trust. The post holder will be responsible for delivery of high-quality clinical care for patients being seen through the CMR Unit.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the running of the clinical CMR service under the direction of the Director, including being fully trained in CMR safety and the delivery of a safe NHS service, and being present at CMR scans.
  • Preparing preliminary reports on patient scans for consultant approval
  • To maintain a high standard of patient care at all times.
  • To liaise with the Chief Technologist in CMR with regard to clinical service issues.
  • To liaise with the physics and clinical staff to ensure the safe operation of all imaging equipment in the CMR Unit. To ensure appropriate infection control measures are utilised when necessary. Paying particular attention to personal protection as well as the management of equipment and linens.
  • To observe safety regulations with regard to the Local Rules for CMR and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • If necessary, to remove property from a patient, for example to take any metal object or jewellery off for a CMR scan and ensure the patient's property is looked after and returned to them at the completion of the procedure.
  • To clear up after spills in accordance with the Trust's infection control policy.
  • The post holder will attend the clinical departmental meetings.
  • Other duties in the CMR unit will be under the guidance of the Director.

Job description

The post holder will support the delivery of a high-quality clinical Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) service within the CMR Unit at the Royal Brompton site.

Responsibilities include attendance at CMR scanning sessions, ensuring compliance with CMR safety procedures, preparing preliminary scan reports for consultant review, and providing excellent patient care throughout the imaging pathway.

The post holder will work closely with consultants, technologists, physicists and the wider multidisciplinary team to support service delivery, education, clinical audit and service development activities. Opportunities to contribute to clinical research may be available under appropriate supervision.

The post holder will be expected to maintain professional standards and comply with Trust policies relating to governance, confidentiality, infection prevention, health and safety, and mandatory training requirements.

About us

CMR Unit has pioneered contributions in the field for 40 years. The CMR Unit is an international referral centre, performing ~10,000 clinical cardiovascular CMR studies per year, as well as publishing 40-60 research papers annually. The ~30 dedicated staff have extensive experience is this field allowing excellence in clinical practice, teaching and research. The CMR Unit is directed by Dr Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci , and there are 7 additional consultants: Prof Raad Mohiaddin, Prof Sanjay Prasad, Dr Francisco Alpendurada, Dr John Baksi, Dr Sonya Babu-Narayan, Dr Cemil Izgi, Dr Sylvia Krupickova, Dr Sabiha Gati, Dr Amrit Lota, Dr Brian Halliday, Dr Sarah Ghonim. There are 6 clinical fellows in training, and national and international trainees. We have a team of 11 technologists running the clinical service. Research and support staff includes physicists, engineers, nurses, and administrative staff. The post's main duties at Royal Brompton will be to be trained in CMR and contribute to the clinical CMR service.

In 2022, a new Diagnostic Centre opened at Royal Brompton Hospital. This house 3 new dedicated CMR scanners: 2 Siemens Sola 1.5T scanners and 1 Siemens Vida 3T scanner. This state-of-the-art facility will greatly enhance the clinical service and drive forward new clinical developments in practice supported by our research. There is in addition, a 3T Siemens Cima research scanner and a Siemens Avanto-Fit 1.5T clinical CMR scanner adjacent to the Diagnostic Centre.
