Job summary
We are currently seeking an experienced Children and Young People's Mental Health Services (CYPMHS) Clinician, at Band 7 to work via a Bank Contract, based in Welwyn for our CAMHS Services. You will be joining our Temporary Staffing Team within HPFT - Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a 6-month role primarily focused on undertaking the Duty Clinician function, ensuring a responsive and safe service for children and young people accessing the team. The post holder will provide clinical support, manage urgent referrals and enquiries, and maintain service continuity in the absence of allocated staff.
HPFT provides services for service users with mental health, learning disability and children's and adolescent mental health problems. Applicants should have some experience of working in a healthcare setting.HPFT has a range of healthcare settings across the County and therefore access to a car would be beneficial unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving
All applicants need to hold a valid Professional Registration and can evidence this.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake the Duty Clinician role, responding to urgent referrals, queries, and requests for support from children, young people, families, carers and professionals.
- To provide timely triage, risk assessment and clinical decision-making for children and young people presenting with emotional, behavioural, psychological or mental health difficulties.
- To manage and respond to welfare calls and wellbeing checks, ensuring appropriate follow-up and escalation where concerns are identified.
- To maintain contact with children, young people and families when their allocated clinician is unavailable, ensuring continuity of care and effective communication.
- To undertake telephone, virtual or face-to-face contacts with children, young people, carers and professionals as required to support safe and effective service delivery.
Job description
- Assess risk and implement appropriate risk management plans, taking account of individual, family and environmental factors.
- Provide consultation and advice to colleagues, professionals and partner agencies regarding the mental health needs of children and young people.
- Work as an active member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to service delivery in line with Children and Young People's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) principles and evidence-based practice.
- Carry out assessments and brief interventions where appropriate, supporting immediate clinical needs and facilitating access to ongoing care.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team and external agencies to ensure coordinated care and effective communication.
- Act as a role model in the delivery of care, maintaining professional standards and upholding public confidence in the service
