We're looking for friendly, organised individuals who enjoy helping others, communicating clearly and working in a busy but supportive clinical environment. No previous experience in eye care is required -- just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Part-time may be considered for the right candidate.

You'll be part of a highly skilled, welcoming team that includes Ophthalmologists, Associate Specialists, Optometrists, Optometry Technicians and Orthoptists -- all passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and helping each other grow.

If you're proactive, interested in using technical equipment, resilient but compassionate and excited about starting a career with real development opportunities, we'd love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As an Optometry Technician, you'll play a key role in supporting our clinical teams across the RUH Eye Clinic and Frome Medical Practice. Day-to-day, you'll learn to carry out a variety of important eye-health tests and assessments, such as:

  • Measuring visual acuity
  • Completing visual field tests
  • Capturing retinal and anterior chamber images
  • Performing OCT (optical coherence tomography) scans
  • Supporting biometry measurements

You'll also help with essential administrative tasks, working closely with our Senior Optometry Technicians to keep our clinics running smoothly.

Why Join Us?

  • Full training provided - perfect for those new to healthcare or exploring a career in eye care.
  • Supportive, friendly team committed to helping you develop
  • Real career progression opportunities within eye care and wider healthcare
  • Hands-on experience in a specialist clinical environment
  • A chance to make a genuine difference to patients every day

If you're ready to start a meaningful, patient-focused career with excellent support and training, we'd be delighted to welcome you to our Eye Unit team.
