Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious surgeon to join the growing Bath Urology team on a 12 month Locum basis.

The post holder would become part of a team of Consultant Urological Surgeons that work very well together in a supportive environment. All Consultants contribute to the general urological workload and 2ww service.

The Urology Unit is an integrated outpatient facility comprising 6 consulting rooms, quiet room, a new dedicated flexible cystoscopy/minor-ops suite with decontamination facilities, urodynamics room, LATP Biopsy room and staff offices. There is a dedicated urology inpatient theatre in the main theatre block. The unit deals with a broad range of Urological problems.

The successful candidate will be part of a busy department offering a comprehensive Urology service delivered by 9 Consultants, two Speciality Trainees from the Severn Deanery, three Clinical Fellows, and three F1/2 doctors. Ward and emergency support is also provided by four designated WTE Urology Nurse Practitioners. The department additionally has six specialist urology nurses and five Uro-oncology CNSs.

Candidates should be on or eligible for inclusion onto the GMC Specialist Register for urology, be within 6 months of their expected date of obtaining a CCT (or equivalent) at the time of the interview or be pursuing a future CESR application.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties:

The holder of this post will be a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon. All Consultants contribute to the general urological workload and 2ww service. In addition to providing these core urology services, the successful applicant will be encouraged to develop a specialist interest according to the needs of the department and to complement the existing consultant body. Opportunities exist for developing and supporting the stone service, expanding the portfolio of minimally invasive treatments for benign prostate disease, prostate cancer diagnostics and paediatric urology.

The post will be based at the RUH Bath and surrounding peripheral hospitals. The holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Lead Clinician of Urology.A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and completion of diaries for CPD is essential. It is also essential that you have an annual appraisal.

An interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the Department and Trust. Links have been established with the University of Bath.

Attendance at, and organisation of, meetings is mandatory (MDT, departmental and governance).
