Job summary

A fixed term position for 12 months has emerged for a Chest Pain Nurse Specialist at Dorset County Hospital. This position is suited to a highly experienced nurse who can provide a comprehensive assessment of patients with stable and unstable chest pain. However, we would consider a Band 6 trainee. You would be required to apply knowledge and skills and make decisions through effective interdisciplinary care.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Chest Pain Nurse Specialist involves a range of responsibilities that are crucial for effective management of a patient caseload.

You will be expected to conduct chest pain assessments within the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic (RACPC) for those with stable chest pain, but also identify patients within the hospital setting admitted with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Using advanced knowledge, clinical reasoning and decision making skills you will triage referrals, assess patients and order further tests. You will be responsible for interpreting the results of investigations and acting upon the findings.

Ensure that patients understand their diagnosis and treatment plan by providing health education and specialist advice, particularly around risk factor modification and prevention.

Work in conjunction with the MDT and provide a resource to resident doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals throughout the organisation.

Job description

To work autonomously in managing a caseload of patients with stable chest pain.

Conduct chest pin assessments to identify patients who may be at risk of heart attack or have had a heart attack.

Arrange further tests to investigate the cause of a patients chest pain, interpret the results and ensure the patient is informed of their diagnosis.

Collaborate with the MDT to ensure that care is delivered timely and appropriately.

Act as an educational resource to the MDT as required.

Ensure compliance with professional standards of care within the chest pains service.

Participate in audit and research within Cardiology to enhance patient care.
