About us

Cardiac services are delivered over both NUH campuses at Queens Medical Centre (QMC) and Nottingham City (NCH). The consultant cardiologists at Nottingham University Hospitals provide secondary and tertiary cardiology services.

The in-patient cardiology service at Nottingham City campus consists of a 20-bed Level-2 Acute Cardiac Unit based in the Trent Cardiac Centre (TCC). There is a daily Consultant ward round supported by a Specialist Registrar and more junior ward Doctors (CT, F2 and F1) in Cardiology across all our in-patient ward areas. Cardiology Consultant and Registrar level cover is provided 24/7. The remainder of Morris ward contains cardiac surgical patients. A further 32 Level-1 cardiology beds are located on Papplewick Ward and 22 low dependency, non-monitored beds on Patience 1 Ward which also houses our newly opened 4 bay ambulatory heart failure unit. Patients undergoing procedures are admitted to the 8 bedded short stay unit based in the Trent Cardiac Centre.

Following approval of a £8.5 million business case extend the TCC, to build 2 new cardiac catheter laboratories along with a new office block. This will increase our cath labs from 3 to 4 and centralise our 4 operational cath labs within the TCC allowing NUH to keep up with the increased demand for structural and cardiac rhythm management procedures. These new labs are scheduled to open in Summer 2026.
