Job summary
- Provide a high quality, efficient portering service as a member of a dedicated team to support services within the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust at the Arrowe Park or Clatterbridge sites.
- Work in a manner that demonstrates the Trusts core values and behaviours to support apositive patient experience
- Understanding of how the role contributes to infection prevention and control within the healthcare environment
- Communicate with patients, staff and colleagues in a professional and polite manner.
Main duties of the job
- Perform portering duties in allocated areas of the hospital site, including Pharmacy, Pathology, Endoscopy, Radiology, Post Room, Waste Team, Goods Distribution Centre, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre
- Transport patients within the allocated hospital site in line with Trust policies and departmental procedures
- Adopt a caring, polite and professional manner when transporting patients
- Use of radios for communication with other members of the Portering team
- Use of telephones and radios for allocation of daily duties
- Safe collection and delivery of gas cylinders, beds, blood products, specimens, pharmacy products, medical equipment, furniture and other equipment around the allocated hospital site(s)
- Ensure wheelchairs are cleaned after patient use
- Use of departmental portering computer system
- Change and replenish medical gas cylinders
- Return empty gas cylinders to designated storage area for stock replacement
- Transfer of deceased patients from wards and departments to the mortuary in a respectful manner
- Assist outside agencies with the transfer of deceased patients
- Use of autoclaving machine to sterilise used specimen receptacles within Pathology Department and removal of waste products to correct waste disposal stream.
