Job summary
Stuart Road Surgery is continuing its journey through a period of transformation and we are inviting applications for a salaried GP to join our expanding clinical team to deliver excellent patient care. Newly qualified GP's are welcome to apply, as are those requiring tier 2 sponsorship. We are considering applications from those who are looking for 4 to 6 sessions per week.
Salary will be competitive, but dependent upon experience. Please include indication salary expectations when applying.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a GP to cover morning and afternoon sessions. This will include home visits and Duty (On-call) rota as required.
We are a SystmOne practice.
Salary will be extremely competitive and negotiable dependent upon experience.
Additional skills such as joint injections and minor surgery would be desirable, but are not essential.
Job description
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Responsibilities:
In accordance with the working arrangements, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake clinical sessions.
They will be expected to:
Provide surgery consultations, telephone consultations and home visits
Check and sign repeat prescriptions
Deal with queries, both over the telephone and in person
Handle paperwork and correspondence within the practice guidelines
Make professional and autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems whether these are self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
Assess the health care needs of patients who have undifferentiated or undiagnosed problems
Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
Consult with patients in line with current practice disease management protocols to develop care plans for health
Provide counselling and health education
Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer them to other care providers as appropriate
Record consultation notes clearly and contemporaneously within agreed standards
Collect data for audit purposes
Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible
Prescribe in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary, or generically, whenever this is clinically appropriate
In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Management and Administration:
The post-holder will be expected to:
Work as part of the team to ensure Quality and Outcome Framework (QoF) and other local targets are met
Ensure all clinical information obtained from patients and other health and social care providers is fully coded utilising systems and processes in place at any given time
Take fair share of non-patient facing work including results, letters for example
Remain on site throughout duration of session
Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
Participate in the evaluation and audit of clinical and patient services
Participate in further development in services provided
Engage in fostering relationships with other local practices and NHS trusts
Be aware of and comply with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection and health and safety
Support and guide where appropriate the management and administration teams in delivering a high quality service to patients
Training and Education:
The post-holder will be expected to:
Comply with the GP appraisal scheme
Uphold a commitment to life-long learning and audits to ensure evidence-based best practice
Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies where appropriate

OTHER CONDITIONS
Annual Leave:
The post-holder will be entitled to WTE 6 weeks and the relevant number of bank holidays for the current calendar year, which will be pro-rata based on number of sessions worked
Communication:
The post-holder will recognise the importance of effective communication and will strive to;
Communicate effectively with colleagues
Communicate effectively with patients, carers and other members of the general public. They will be polite and courteous at all times and communicate relevant information where appropriate
Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly
Contribution to the Implementation of Services:
The post-holder will:
Apply practice policies, standards and guidance
Be able to discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect their own work
Participate in audits where appropriate
Confidentiality:
In the course of seeking treatment patients entrust the practice with, or allow the practice to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately. Under the Data Protection Act 1998 and GDPR guidelines 2018, the post-holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, careers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice. This work is of a confidential nature and information gained must not be communicated to other persons except in the recognised course of duty. Unauthorised disclosure of confidential information will result in disciplinary action and may lead to the post-holders dismissal.

The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice which will include;

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will;

Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance
Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs
Effectively manage own time, workload and resources
Security:
It is the responsibility of all employees to work within the security policies and procedures within the practice to protect the patients, staff and visitors. This duty applies to the specific work area of the individual. All staff are required to wear official identification badges.
Flexibility:
The practice is currently working in a climate of great change within the NHS. It is therefore expected that all staff will develop flexible working practices to be able to meet the challenges and opportunities of working within the NHS.
Safeguarding:
It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure all patients and staff are safe. If any member of staff has any safeguarding concerns, these must be reported to the organisation safeguarding lead.

Stuart Road Surgery is a GP and nurse training practice with a patient list size of around 7000 patients, and conveniently located on the edge of Pontefract town centre.
Our clinical team comprises of 2 x GP Partners, 6 x Salaried GP's, 2 x Practice nurses and 1 x HCA along with a team of external staff employed by our Primary Care Network. Our admin team comprises of a around 13 dedicated and supportive admin / reception staff along with our Practice / business manager and Operations Manager.
