Job summary
22.5hrs - 30hrs per week (days to be confirmed).
To work across all four sites.
The successful candidate will be responsible for running daily phlebotomy clinics. They will be required to ensure all samples that require hospital analysis are correctly labelled and logged, have the necessary completed paperwork and are ready in time for collection by the courier. Previous experience is desirable but not essential, as full training, support, and guidance will be provided. They must be enthusiastic and motivated, have excellent communication skills and work well within a team.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is to work under the direct supervision of the Senior HCA(s) / Lead Nurse(s) and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
Job description
Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures
Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
Checking patient identification against GP/ANP request and confirming with patient whenever possible
Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
Accurately document all consultations on the patients computer record
Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
Book follow up appointments when required
Act as chaperone for doctors when required
General Treatment room assistance as required
To obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written)
Ensure that infection control guidelines are maintained
Work as a member of the wider practice team
Manage and organise individual patient consultations
Promptly report back to the senior HCA any anomalies, incidents, complaints, accidents, significant patient issues etc
