Job summary
The Nursing Auxiliary plays a crucial role in supporting the efficient and effective operation of the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including assisting qualified clinical staff, providing administrative support, and ensuring patient safety and well-being in a fast-paced environment.
Main duties of the job
- To work as a member of the urgent treatment centre (UTC) team and to establish and maintain the relationships within the team and across relevant teams in organisation.
- To support qualified staff in the management and execution of clinical practice
- To promote equality of care and non-discriminatory practice, acknowledging a patient's personal beliefs and identity
- To ensure that clinical information is passed to the appropriate member of the team
- To support patients and relatives in adjusting to the changed circumstances caused by illness and injury
- Provide reception cover to deliver a professional, confidential and efficient reception and follow-up service to patients attending the Urgent Treatment Centre, and provide clerical/administrative support.
- To work with the medicines management team to support in the safety of consumables and medicines located at the UTC sites.
Job description
Patient Care:
- Assisting qualified nursing staff with patient assessments, triage, and treatment procedures.
- Monitoring patient vital signs and reporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare professional.
- Providing basic patient support, including emotional support and reassurance.
- Ensuring patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Assisting with minor procedures, such as wound dressing and medication administration, under the direct supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
Administrative Support:
- Providing reception and clerical support, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient records.
- Assisting with the management of medical supplies and equipment.
- Preparing and maintaining patient environments.
- Assisting with the coordination of patient flow within the UTC.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhering to NHS policies and procedures related to infection control, safeguarding, and health and safety.
- Following safe moving and handling techniques.
- Participating in mandatory training and development activities.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant UTC protocols and guidelines.
Emergency Response:
- Responding to emergency situation as needed, including assisting with CPR and administering emergency medications.
- Following emergency protocols and procedures.
- Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely and effective patient care.
Quality Improvement:
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives and audits.
- Identifying and reporting any issues or concerns related to patient care.
- Suggesting ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the UTC.

- Queens Hospital in Romford,
- King George Hospital in Goodmayes,
- Barking Hospital in Barking, and
- Harold Wood Polyclinic in Harold Wood.
PELC also provides Out of Hours Home Visiting and an Outreach service to the homeless community in the boroughs we serve. All our services are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
PELCs membership is drawn from GPs, health professionals, patient representatives, and staff in the boroughs we serve-Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge. The organisation reinvests all profits into improving its services and has no shareholders.
