Job summary

The senior resuscitation nurse practitioner will be responsible for the day-to- day running of the resuscitation training service at the Bedford site. This will include being the strategic lead in the planning of resuscitation training for all trust staff. Attending cardiac arrests and providing expert clinical advice, supporting wards/departments in reviewing these as part of the PSIRP process and deputising for the lead when needed.

Main duties of the job

A registered professional with experience in an acute setting with exposure to adult and paediatric resuscitation. They will be a Resuscitation Council UK instructor with experience in being a resuscitation practitioner. Able to teach to different staff groups and give feedback when needed. Involvement in the PSIRF process will be invaluable and an understanding of governance and upward reporting will also be key. Management of InPhase, data analysis and quality improvement will be useful.

Job description

  • To be key in organising and delivering Resuscitation Council UK Immediate adult and paediatric life support courses (ILS/PILS)
  • Support in collection of data following cardiac arrest and the collation of this data. To support wards and departments in recording/presenting this information as per the PSIRF process. Attending and presenting at PSIRP meetings where appropriate
  • Ensure that all training performed is recorded according to Trust policies and liaising with the Learning and Education Teams to achieve compliance targets.
  • To co-chair or deputise for the lead at the Resuscitation and Deteriorating Patient Committee, contributing to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Attend cardiac arrest calls when other duties permit and perform as an active member of the team - providing teaching, support and advice as appropriate.
  • Assisting with the organisation of Resuscitation Council (UK) and Royal College of Surgeons courses to ensure that they run smoothly. Act as a Course Co-Ordinator.
  • To deputise for the Lead Resuscitation Officer in their absence.
  • To input data into the National Cardiac Arrest Audit (NCAA)
  • Be responsible for the audit of resuscitation decision including the treatment escalation plan (TEP) and ReSPECT document.
  • Monitor and lead on any change MyKitCheck and monitor compliance of all areas.
  • To support the resuscitation practitioners on the organisation, set up and maintenance of resuscitation equipment used in delivery of training.
