Job summary

We are recruiting a part-time Consultant Psychiatrist to join our CAMHS Community Teams in Oxfordshire to support the Neurodevelopmental Conditions (NDC) Pathway.

You'll join us at a key moment moment where we develop the functioning of the NDC Pathway in line with the NHS 10 Year Plan (Neighbourhood Model) and the new recommendations for Assessment and Treatment of Neurodevelopmental Conditions within core community CAMHS.

The NDC Pathway provides assessment and treatment for young people with Neurodevelopmental Conditions. The NDC Pathway works closely with the Getting More Help Teams and will be merged into core Community CAMHS in the next couple of years, following a Neighbourhood Model.

We're looking for candidates who have experience of working in CAMHS and have great interpersonal skills working collaboratively with colleagues and our team managers, providing leadership and clinical expertise to our highly skilled and committed multidisciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess new cases and manage their case load working with other clinicians in the team.
  • Support and develop evidence-based practice and evaluation within the team.
  • Support team members with cases through consultation and joint working.
  • With other senior team members, lead and develop the team within a trust that is committed to compassionate leadership.
  • Liaise effectively with other services and agencies (education and social care)
  • Manage mental health crises including use of the mental health act where appropriate.
  • Support and enable appropriate admission and discharge of patients from inpatient units
  • Work with colleagues in the acute hospitals.

Job description

CAMHS servicesare provided across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and North-East Somerset. CAMHS are managed in a coordinated way across the counties, but with separate services in each of the counties, relating to the local authorities and clinical commissioning groups. CAMHS has established good quality working links with local authority partner agencies in all counties, paediatric departments and mental health services for adults, all of which have been reflected in CAMHS strategy agreements within each county.

Services for children with learning disabilities are integrated into CAMHS. Oxfordshire CAMH Services sit within the Oxfordshire and BSW Mental Health Directorate, which is committed to always work in a way that respects, upholds and promotes childrens rights, including the right to be protected from significant harm. These principles are embedded within strategy, operational and staff appointment procedures, as well as clinical governance arrangements.

The Trust is committed to high quality teaching and training for medical students, post graduate trainees in psychiatry, specialty doctors, students and other professionals and we work closely with the Psychiatric Department of the University of Oxford. The Consultant will provide direct clinical supervision and line management with opportunities to develop your skills in these areas.
