Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Maternity Education Team at University College London Hospitals as a Fetal Wellbeing Midwife.

This specialist role is central to supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality maternity care through education, clinical leadership, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Working alongside midwives, obstetricians and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will lead the development and delivery of fetal wellbeing education programmes, support competency development in fetal surveillance and promote evidence-based practice across Maternity Services.

As a visible clinical leader, you will work within clinical areas to support staff in the assessment and management of fetal wellbeing, facilitate reflective learning and contribute to improving outcomes for women, birthing people and babies.

This role is ideal for an experienced and enthusiastic midwife with expertise in fetal monitoring, a passion for education and workforce development, and a commitment to improving patient safety and clinical outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The Fetal Wellbeing Midwife will provide specialist leadership in fetal surveillance, fetal monitoring education and patient safety across Maternity Services. Working as part of the Maternity Education Team, the post holder will:

o Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of fetal wellbeing and fetal monitoring education programmes.o Support midwives, obstetricians and maternity staff to develop and maintain competence in fetal surveillance, clinical assessment and decision-making.o Maintain a visible clinical presence, providing real-time support, coaching and education within maternity clinical areas.o Facilitate multidisciplinary teaching sessions, CTG workshops, mandatory training and reflective learning activities.o Lead and support audit, governance and quality improvement initiatives relating to fetal wellbeing and intrapartum care.o Support learning from incidents, investigations and case reviews, ensuring learning is embedded into practice.o Contribute to the development of local policies, guidance and clinical standards relating to fetal wellbeing and patient safety.o Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues and key stakeholders to improve outcomes for women, birthing people and babies.

We are looking for a motivated, innovative and experienced midwife with expert knowledge of fetal surveillance and CTG interpretation, excellent communication skills and a passion for education, service improvement and patient safety.

The Fetal Wellbeing Midwife provides specialist leadership for fetal wellbeing education, training, quality improvement and patient safety across Maternity Services. Working as part of the Maternity Education Team, the post holder will lead educational programmes that enhance staff competence in fetal surveillance, fetal monitoring and clinical decision-making.

The role combines clinical practice, workforce development, governance and service improvement responsibilities. The post holder will provide expert advice, support the development of policies and standards, undertake audit and quality assurance activities, facilitate learning from incidents and maintain a visible clinical presence to support staff in practice.

Through education, leadership and collaboration, the Fetal Wellbeing Midwife will promote evidence-based practice, support safe and effective care, and contribute to improving outcomes for women, birthing people and babies.
