Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Technologist / Healthcare Scientist (specialising in Nuclear Medicine Technology) to work within the Nuclear Medicine Department at Singleton Hospital in Swansea.

The Nuclear Medicine service at Singleton Hospital has two state-of-the art SPECT-CT systems, an on-site Radiopharmacy, bone densitometry, inpatient radionuclide therapy and gamma counting facilities. We are about to open a new PET-CT centre on site and this role will provide essential technical support for this new service. There are plans to develop the radionuclide therapy service on the site, with the creation of a new outpatient therapy suite.

The post holder will work within a highly skilled team in therapeutic and technical nuclear medicine. The post holder will support management of specialist PET radiopharmaceutical dispensing equipment and will provide clinical non-imaging and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services for patients. The post holder will perform radioactivity management and radiation equipment quality control procedures and will mentor junior staff members and students in this specialist area.

For applicants with insufficient experience, we may consider offering employment under the provisions of Annex 21, for a training period of up to 3 years.

Main duties of the job

The role will include delivering clinical non-imaging and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services for patients, including radiopharmaceutical ordering, drawing-up and administration. There is also a requirement to work with PET radiopharmaceutical dispensing equipment, in radioactive waste management and equipment quality control and to support staff training and mentoring.

We are looking for an applicant with work experience in the following areas:

  • Phlebotomy and cannulation and intravenous administration of radiopharmaceuticals
  • Aseptic dispensing and administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals
  • Radioactive waste management
  • Technical management
  • Radiation safety
  • Quality Control testing of radiation detection equipment
  • Standard infection control process relating to intravenous administrations
  • Staff training
