Job summary
As a Band 3 Technical Instructor, you will be required to support the RegisteredNurse/Physiotherapist Specialists and Senior Technical Instructors in the overalldelivery of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme. Under the delegatedsupervision of the Registered Nurse/Physiotherapist Specialists and SeniorTechnical Instructors, you will assist in the assessment processes, delivery ofexerciseclasses,delivereducationsessions,andundertakereassessment/evaluation activities, providing explanation, support and advice topatients, relatives and carers, as appropriate within your competency.You will be expected prioritise and organise yourself in order to complete delegatedactivities, meeting the needs of the patients and the service. You will be responsiblefor reporting clinical observations, escalating any concerns and documenting clinicalactivity that you undertake.
Main duties of the job
Clinical1. To assist with supervision and support of Service Users at PulmonaryRehabilitation Classes and give accurate feedback on observations. Supportand supervise patients during exercise classes, providing accurate feedbackon observations made to the most appropriate colleague. 2. To provide support and encouragement to patients throughout the PulmonaryRehabilitation process.3. Under direction of the Senior Technical Instructor, you will be expected toadminister the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service.4. Support delivery of exercise programmes with individuals or groups asdirected by the Registered Nurse / Physiotherapist or Senior TechnicalInstructor.5. To set up and take down all the activity equipment at class locations, checkand clean equipment following Trust Policy and Procedures. When class hasfinished, ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately.6. To assist a Service User in practical problem solving by obtaining informationon services which may enhance independence.7. To assess a Service Users ability to safely use exercise equipment (handweights, exercise bike etc) in classes and to record accurately, escalating anyconcerns to a registered practitioner.8. To complete standardised walking tests as part of a patient assessmentfollowing service guidelines.9. To support service users to complete lifestyle and disease specificquestionnaires.10. To access and monitor patient engagement on the digital PR tool.
Job description
Communication1. To establish and maintain effective communication with Service Users, andtheir carers and/or family members, taking into account communicationchallenges e.g. hearing impairment, anxiety, non-verbal.2. To maintain professional communication and behavioural frameworkstandards with fellow colleagues, to ensure trust values are maintained, andto support the effective communication of task delegation and feedback to theappropriate colleague.3. To be aware of your own role-based limitations and to advise Service Users totalk to appropriate professionals. To practice within the boundaries andlimitations of your role, referring or escalating anything outside of these to aRegistered Nurse/Physiotherapist. 4. To obtain valid consent from the patient prior to undertaking any task and toinform and seek guidance from the Registered Nurse / Physiotherapist, ifthere are any concerns about the patient's capacity to give consent.5. To refer Service Users, with their consent, to other services or agencies asappropriate, at the direction of or with the approval of a Registered Nurse orPhysiotherapist.Management and LeadershipClinical Governance1. Be responsible for organising own priorities and delegated workload. 2. To plan activities such as reassessments, make appointments and collaboratewith colleagues to ensure the most urgent tasks are completed within anappropriate time frame.3. To support with the induction and mentorship of new or rotating staff, withinthe AIRS service, and to support the learning opportunities of studentsattending Pulmonary Rehabilitation for a study day or placement. 1. To operate within the policies, procedures and guidelines of the Trust &professional bodies, at all times.2. To maintain and ensure clinical records are factual, organised, clear andwhich comply with current guidelines.3. To contribute to service development through engagement with QualityImprovement projects and implementing agreed change within own practice.4. To actively engage in the annual appraisal process, reviewing achievementsand the development of a personal development plan.5. To complete and maintain mandatory training compliance, as appropriate forthe role.6. To engage in regular clinical supervision to reflect and develop practice.7. To be aware of responsibility for self and others under the Health and Safetyat Work Act and to operate at all times within organisational and servicesafety guidelines.8. To report all incidents and near misses to a senior member of the team, andwhere appropriate, complete incident reporting using the trusts reportingsystem.The above list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be fullycomprehensive and may be amended to take account of changing circumstancesor requirements following consultation with the post holder.Where necessary, relevant training in the operation of new or unfamiliarequipment, and IT software or procedures will be provided or arranged.
