Job summary

Due to some additional investment in our Community Stroke and Neurological Rehabilitation Team, we are delighted to have the opportunity to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our existing team of four Rehabilitation Assistants (RA). This staff group provides essential support for our qualified clinicians by delivering prescribed treatment programmes in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Clinical Psychology.

Candidates need to be able to work autonomously and as part of a group. The post-holder will be supported by senior clinicians to develop skills in delivering therapy to patients. Full competency-based training is provided within the role, and the successful applicant will be supported with ongoing development needs through regular supervision and an annual achievement review process. The team have an established in-service training programme.

We are looking for someone with strong communication skills, excellent time management and organisation skills, the ability to demonstrate empathy and motivate patients to fully participate in their treatment.

Full UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes are essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

The role encompasses both clinical and administrative work. Key duties include supporting with delivery of prescribed treatment programmes within patients homes or clinics, maintaining accurate electronic records of the treatments provided and providing feedback to the qualified clinicians involved in each patients care. Treatment may be delivered independently based on instructions from qualified staff members or through joint sessions working alongside therapists from the different clinical disciplines.

Our Rehabilitation Assistants provide essential support with set up and clear up of clinical areas for individual and group treatment sessions.

The role also involves various administrative tasks, including contacting patients, supporting with development of patient resources, assisting with patient timetables and contributing to data collection for local and national audit requirements.

Job description

The post holder will work as part of a specialist multi-disciplinary team providing rehabilitation for patients under the care of CSNRT, including patients living with long-term neurological conditions and those on the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) pathway for stroke patients.

Following appropriate induction and competency-based training, the post holder is required:

To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients in their own home or other community settings as directed by the Therapists and specialist nurses. This will include nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech & language therapists.

To carry out, monitor and progress treatment programmes within an agreed scope of practice, as directed by the clinician.

To work unsupervised reporting back patient progress and informing the qualified clinician of any problems.

To undertake housekeeping and administrative tasks as directed by CSNRT / ESD Team Leaders.
