Job summary

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant Histopathologist to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team of supportive Cellular Pathology Consultant colleagues based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. The role offers the opportunity to develop exciting sub-specialty interests and potential opportunities for research and teaching.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales with an enhanced starting salary of £140,342

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The appointee would have interest primarily in breast pathology, with further interests in some of: gynaecological pathology, breast pathology, head and neck, endocrine, and pulmonary pathology. The post would suit either a first-time Consultant or an established Consultant Histopathologist wishing to relocate. There is no cervical cytology requirement. Together we will provide and develop a wide-ranging cellular pathology service to primary, secondary and tertiary care colleagues.

The appointee will take a lead role in the development of specialist diagnostic techniques to meet the increasing demands of clinical users and will participate in the training of specialty trainees, scientific and BMS staff. A commitment to contribute to the requirements of clinical governance and share in the administrative duties associated with the running of a clinical laboratory is also expected.
