Job summary
Provide professional barbering services to patients within a secure forensic mental health hospital, promoting dignity, wellbeing, and personal care through high-quality haircuts, beard trimming, and hair care advice. Maintain high standards of hygiene by cleaning, sterilising, and safely maintaining barbering equipment in accordance with infection prevention and health and safety policies. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams while adhering to security procedures, confidentiality, and safeguarding requirements. Support the operation of the Patients' Shop by serving customers, operating the EPOS till system, assisting with stock control, maintaining accurate records. Deliver excellent customer service while demonstrating professionalism, respect, flexibility, and a commitment to NHS values in a secure healthcare environment.
Main duties of the job
Delivered professional barbering services, including hair cutting, beard and moustache trimming, shampooing, and styling for patients within a secure forensic mental health hospital.
Promoted patients' dignity, confidence, and wellbeing by providing a welcoming, respectful, and person-centred grooming service.
Consulted with patients to understand their preferences while providing professional advice on hairstyles and hair and scalp care.
Maintained high standards of hygiene by cleaning, disinfecting, sterilising, and safely storing barbering equipment in line with infection prevention and control procedures.
Conducted routine security checks and adhered to all security protocols required within a high-secure healthcare environment.
Assisted with the operation of the Patients' Shop by serving customers, operating the till, replenishing stock, pricing goods, processing patient orders, and supporting stock control and stocktaking activities.
Demonstrated flexibility by supporting wider Rehabilitation Services as required while maintaining high standards of customer service, professionalism, and teamwork.
Maintained strict information governance and confidentiality standards by handling patient information securely, sharing information only on a need-to-know basis, and complying with NHS data protection, GDPR, and Trust policies.
