An exciting opportunity has arisen for staff nurses to join our team.
The Band 5 Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients admitted to the Acute Medical Unit. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care whilst promoting patient safety, dignity, and positive clinical outcomes.
The post holder will provide care to patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions, often requiring rapid assessment, continuous monitoring, and timely intervention. They will work collaboratively with medical staff, allied health professionals, healthcare support workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate safe admission, treatment, discharge, and patient flow throughout the unit.

Please note: We welcome applications from registered nurses; however, this role is not suitable for student nurses who have not yet obtained NMC registration. Candidates must be registered with the NMC at the point of application.
Main duties of the job
- Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate individualised patient care.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to deteriorating patients using recognised escalation processes.
- Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with CTM UHB policies and NMC standards.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and legally compliant patient records.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and discharge planning.
- Support the achievement of effective patient flow through timely assessment and discharge coordination.
- Provide supervision and support to Healthcare Support Workers, student nurses, and newly appointed staff.
- Maintain competence in clinical skills and mandatory training requirements.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement, governance, and patient safety initiatives.
- Promote infection prevention and control, safeguarding, and risk management practices.
- Contribute to creating a positive and supportive working environment for patients, relatives, and colleagues.

The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. CTM is a Health Board committed to meaningful consultation with staff and to making balanced decisions that consider all aspects of our service and workforce.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the management of acutely unwell patients. Main duties will involve admitting patients to the unit and giving medical treatment and a wide range of different medications. Risk assessments will need to be undertaken on each patient who are admitted, which involve undertaking a full background assessment to ensure a high standard of care is given to each individual.
