The role

The Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Bristol is seeking to appoint TWO Teaching Associates in the School of Engineering Mathematics and Technology (SEMT). These posts are within our teaching pathway and so the focus of the post is delivering teaching and the associated administration. The post is funded for a fixed term period until 30th Sept 2027. The successful applicant will have broad teaching and admin responsibilities across our undergraduate and MSc degree programmes. Applicants should make it clear in their covering letter which degree programmes and what topics they could teach.

What will you be doing?

You will play an active role in delivering high-quality, innovative teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will supervise and assess research projects, provide personal tutoring, and contribute to lectures, laboratories and problem classes. The role holder will be responsible for teaching at levels appropriate to their specialism and may help to organise such teaching. Their teaching will primarily be on classes prepared by other members of staff, but there may be some opportunity to contribute to the preparation and development of classes. The role holder will be developing their competence in teaching and/or clinical/professional work over a variety of courses and settings. They are expected to plan their own activity, make a contribution to teaching and to course development discussions. They will be expected to act as tutor to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students

You should apply if

You should apply if you have:

a PhD (or near completion) in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar.

Experience of teaching in higher education.

Ability to teach appropriately in various ways at various levels and to communicate clearly material of a specialist or highly technical nature.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.

Ability to organise their own time and work, to meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.

Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.

Flexible and part-time working arrangements can be discussed
