Teaching Assistant Level 2 St Julian's Primary SchoolCouncil
Post No. EDSCH01019.16.1 - Teaching Assistant Level 2 St Julian's Primary School
The Headteacher and Governing Body of St Julian’s Primary School wish to appoint a caring, enthusiastic and committed Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join our team.
St Julian’s is a large, vibrant community primary school in Newport, welcoming children from Nursery to Year 6. We are proud of our diverse school community and work to ensure that every child feels safe, included and ready to learn. Our motto, ‘Learning together, hand in hand’, reflects the importance we place on relationships and on working closely with children, families and one another.
We want our children to develop curiosity, confidence, resilience and independence. Our curriculum brings learning to life through purposeful, practical experiences, including outdoor learning, digital technology, creative activities, visits and opportunities to contribute to our community. Teaching assistants play an important part in making these experiences accessible and successful for our pupils.
About the role
Working closely with class teachers and other colleagues, you will support children’s learning, wellbeing and participation in school life. The role is expected to involve working mainly with our younger pupils, although you may be required to support children in other year groups according to the needs of the school.
You will provide support within the classroom and work with individual pupils and small groups, including children with additional learning needs. You will help children develop their communication, literacy, numeracy and social skills, while encouraging them to become increasingly independent.
Building positive, trusting relationships will be central to your work. You will help children approach challenges with confidence, recognise their achievements and take their next steps in learning. We encourage applicants to have a look at our website to find out further information about the school - www.stjuliansprimary.com.
We are looking for someone who:
- Enjoys working with children and believes that every child can make progress.
- Is warm, positive, patient and caring, with high expectations for children’s learning and behaviour.
- Understands the importance of inclusion and responds sensitively to different needs.
- Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with children and adults.
- Is reliable, flexible and willing to learn.
- Uses initiative appropriately and follows agreed guidance and support strategies.
- Is committed to safeguarding, confidentiality and professional conduct.
Experience of supporting children in a school setting, particularly children with additional learning needs, would be an advantage. Applicants should demonstrate how they meet the requirements in the job description and person specification.
We can offer:
- A welcoming school community that celebrates diversity and values belonging.
- Children with a wide range of interests, strengths and talents.
- A supportive, collaborative staff team.
- Opportunities for professional learning and development.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children’s learning and wellbeing.
