Post No. POSN005466 - Senior Solicitor (Litigation)

At Newport City Council Legal Services, we're seeking a dynamic and motivated solicitor, barrister, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with equivalent practice rights to lead our busy, supportive, and highly regarded in-house Litigation Team.

This is a unique opportunity to take on an influential leadership role within a forward-thinking local authority, where you'll work on high-profile and diverse matters that make a real difference to our communities.

As the lead for the Litigation Team, you will provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance across a diverse range of contentious matters. You'll oversee complex and high-profile cases, support the delivery of high-quality legal services, and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to achieve positive outcomes.

You'll also have the opportunity to shape the future direction of the team, driving continuous improvement and helping to ensure the service remains efficient, effective, and responsive to the needs of the Council.

We recognise that talented professionals perform at their best when they have flexibility and balance. That's why we offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements, helping you manage your professional and personal commitments effectively.

What We Are Looking For

We're looking for an experienced legal professional who can bring:
- Strong technical expertise across a range of litigation disciplines.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
- A proactive, positive, and solution-focused approach.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively under pressure.
- A commitment to delivering high-quality legal services.

Previous supervisory experience would be advantageous, but we also welcome applications from ambitious lawyers who are ready to take the next step into leadership. Most importantly, you'll be someone who can inspire confidence, motivate colleagues, and foster a collaborative and supportive team culture.

Why Join Us?

If you're looking for a role where your work has purpose, your development is supported, and your expertise can make a tangible difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Come and build your future with a forward-thinking Council that places its people at the heart of everything it does.
